A Las Vegas murder suspect is now in custody after being extradited from Oklahoma, where he was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting last December. Maalik Wilburn, 27, is facing charges of murder, attempted murder, and battery for the shooting that occurred on December 23, 2024, at Nucleus Plaza, located at Owens Avenue and H Street in central Las Vegas.
According to the arrest warrant, Wilburn opened fire on two men, killing Samuel Wiley and injuring a second victim. The shooting was reported by a 9-1-1 caller who didn’t identify themselves but mentioned hearing three gunshots. Police found Wiley inside a nearby business, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the chest, while the second victim was found outside with two gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The shooting took place at General Population Media Group (GPMG), where Wilburn had been using a recording studio behind the business. Investigators were alerted to Wilburn’s involvement by individuals who reported seeing him at the scene. Surveillance footage from a nearby business confirmed his identity as the shooter.
The second victim, who survived the attack, told authorities that Wilburn had been in the studio for 30-40 hours before suddenly walking out and opening fire on him and Wiley.
Wilburn was apprehended in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Monday and is now being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail. A public defender has been appointed to represent him, and his hearing is scheduled for Tuesday. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
