Weather Whiplash in Boise: Thunderstorms Could Disrupt Your Monday Plans
Boise, ID – If you were hoping for a dry start to the week, you might want to grab an umbrella. The National Weather Service has issued a weather alert for Boise and surrounding areas, warning residents to prepare for showers and possible thunderstorms rolling in Monday afternoon.
Rain Likely by Midday
After a calm and mostly cloudy morning, the skies are expected to turn active by early afternoon, with a 60% chance of precipitation moving in. The incoming system could bring brief, heavy downpours, lightning, and gusty winds in isolated spots.
Forecasters say the rainfall won’t be widespread or severe, but scattered thunderstorms could still pack a punch in parts of the Treasure Valley.
“This storm won’t be a washout for everyone, but if you’re caught under one of these cells, it’ll be noticeable,” said a local NWS meteorologist. “People should plan for changing weather throughout the day.”
Thunderstorm Threat Could Disrupt Afternoon Plans
The potential for thunderstorms has prompted officials to urge extra caution for those with outdoor activities or travel planned Monday afternoon and evening. Lightning, brief hail, and reduced visibility during bursts of rain could cause minor traffic issues, especially during the evening commute.
“If you’re going to be on the road or outdoors, keep your phone handy and stay tuned for alerts,” officials warned. “Weather conditions could change quickly in isolated areas.”
Local parks and event organizers are also monitoring the skies, with a few Monday events already on standby depending on the development of the storms.
Cooler Temps and Cloud Cover to Dominate
Along with the stormy weather, temperatures in Boise will hover in the upper 50s to low 60s, cooler than the weekend’s mild highs. The cloud cover will limit sunshine throughout the day, and winds could pick up to 15–20 mph, especially near thunderstorm cells.
Overnight, rain chances taper off, but cloudy conditions are expected to linger into Tuesday morning before partial clearing later in the day.
What’s Ahead for the Week?
Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday bring drier conditions, though another system could move in by Thursday, keeping things unsettled across much of southern Idaho. Temperatures will gradually warm midweek, reaching the mid-60s to near 70°F by Wednesday.
