CTA Passenger Attacked and Robbed After Asking Men to Stop Smoking


A CTA passenger was brutally attacked and robbed after he asked three men to stop smoking on a Red Line train, according to a recent community alert from Chicago police.

The incident occurred around 2:27 a.m. on January 2, near 69th Street. According to law enforcement, the three men, who appear in the surveillance photos, became enraged after being asked to extinguish their cigarettes.

The group attacked the victim, punching him in the face and body, and stole his bag, which contained his wallet. The assault continued on the 69th Street platform before the men fled the station.

Area Four detectives are currently leading the investigation. They’ve released the surveillance images in hopes of identifying the suspects. If you have any information, please contact detectives at 312-746-8253, referencing crime pattern #24-CWP-055.
