Three Men Face Additional Charges After High-Speed Chase in Lenoir County
LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. – Authorities have announced new charges against three men involved in a high-speed chase that took place earlier this week in Eastern North Carolina.
The incident began on Monday when a Lenoir County deputy conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 70. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver suddenly sped away, initiating a chase. Investigators later confirmed that the car had been reported stolen in New Bern.
The pursuit extended into Wayne County, with the fleeing vehicle reaching dangerous speeds. The chase ended dramatically at the Berkeley Boulevard exit when the car attempted to take the exit ramp at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. The vehicle collided with multiple objects before overturning, bringing the chase to a violent halt.
The occupants of the car were identified as 19-year-old Malachi Williams and 18-year-old Colby Williams, both from New Bern, along with 18-year-old Demauri Outlaw of Roxboro. All three were immediately apprehended and initially charged with numerous offenses related to the chase.
On Thursday, authorities announced that the trio now faces additional charges from New Bern police. These charges include larceny of a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit larceny. Deputies revealed that these new charges stem from the theft of the vehicle used in the chase.
As a result of the updated charges, the bonds for all three men were increased by $10,000 each. The trio remains in custody while awaiting further court proceedings.
The high-speed chase and subsequent crash caused significant disruption along U.S. 70 and surrounding areas. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported during the incident. Law enforcement continues to emphasize the dangers posed by reckless driving and high-speed pursuits, urging individuals to comply with traffic stops and avoid endangering the lives of others on the road.
