Wauconda Man Charged in Shocking Bucktown Hit-and-Run That Injured Woman

A man from a northern suburb has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run that happened in Bucktown last year, leaving a woman seriously injured.

Michael Reznik, 37, was reportedly driving a dark blue 2006 Bentley at high speed westbound on the 2100 block of West Armitage Avenue around 10:50 p.m. on May 4, 2024. According to Chicago police, he hit a 40-year-old woman who was walking through a crosswalk.

The woman sustained severe injuries, including a brain bleed, fractures to her pelvis, leg, and spine, as stated in court records. After the collision, Reznik fled the scene without stopping to help.

Last week, police contacted Reznik’s attorney to arrange for him to turn himself in. On Tuesday, Reznik, who lives in Wauconda, was taken into custody. He is now facing several charges, including one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident, one felony count of aggravated reckless driving, and one misdemeanor count of failing to provide information and assist the injured person. Additionally, he received other traffic citations.

After appearing in court for the first time on Wednesday, Reznik was released from custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 3.

The incident highlights the serious consequences of reckless driving and the importance of staying at the scene of an accident to help those who are injured.
