A woman from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was indicted on Thursday in connection with a deadly car crash that occurred on July 6. The crash killed Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson, along with two of his former high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr. Cori Clingman, the woman involved, faces 13 charges, including vehicular manslaughter for driving under the influence, according to Prince George’s County prosecutors.
If convicted, Clingman could face up to 30 years in prison, as stated by State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy. “This is just the beginning of our fight for justice for these three young men, their families, and the entire community,” Braveboy said. The details of Clingman’s legal representation are not clear yet. She was arrested without incident and is scheduled for a bond review on Friday.
Khyree Jackson, 24, was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in April. He played football for two years at Alabama before finishing his college career at Oregon. On the night of the crash, Jackson was traveling in a car with his former teammates Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr. when their vehicle was hit by another car. Hazel, 23, was driving, with Jackson and Lytton as passengers. The crash happened just after 3 a.m. when Clingman’s vehicle, speeding and changing lanes, struck the car carrying the three young men.
Hazel and Jackson died at the scene of the crash, while Lytton passed away later at the hospital. Hazel played college football at both the University of Maryland and Charlotte, and Lytton had played at Florida State and Penn State. The three friends had also won a state championship together in high school at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Maryland.
The crash occurred when Hazel’s car was hit, causing it to leave the road and hit multiple tree stumps. No one was injured in the other two vehicles involved in the crash. The authorities believe that Clingman’s car made contact with the victims’ vehicle before the deadly crash took place.
This tragedy has deeply affected the local community, the NFL, and the families of the victims, as they all continue to seek justice for these young men.
