Tragic Revenge: Tennessee Toddler Shot in Stroller Over Loud Music Dispute

A tragic incident in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, led to the death of a 1-year-old boy, Jeriko Logue. The child was shot while sitting in his stroller after an argument between his mother and her boyfriend, Marquavious Hampton, 25, turned violent.

The Murfreesboro Police Department responded to the Chelsea Place Apartments at around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday after receiving reports of a shooting. Investigators determined that Hampton shot Jeriko during a fight over loud music. Jeriko’s mother was also injured, sustaining a gunshot wound to her hand while trying to protect her son. Sadly, she was unable to save him.

After the shooting, Hampton fled the scene, leading officers on a police chase that ended in Williamson County. According to a statement from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spotted Hampton’s car using their FLOCK camera system. A high-speed chase ensued before Hampton abandoned the vehicle and ran into a nearby field. Officers reported seeing a firearm in his hand before discovering him with a gunshot wound. It is unclear whether he shot himself intentionally or accidentally. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died. Authorities are still investigating both shootings.

Hampton was already facing an arrest warrant for Jeriko’s murder, as confirmed by Murfreesboro Police Captain Becky Coyle.

The child’s grandmother, Lucretia Logue, was heartbroken over the loss of her grandson. Through tears, she told WTVF, “They took everything from me. My whole world is gone. I don’t know what to do anymore.”

Jeriko’s family described him as a happy and joyful child. His grandmother said, “He lit up the room with his bright eyes and big smile. He was my first grandson, and now my life feels over.”

His cousin, Enashie Wise, expressed disbelief at the cruel act. “How could someone be so heartless to harm a baby? He had just learned how to walk. He didn’t even get a chance to talk much.”

A GoFundMe page was created to help cover funeral and medical expenses for Jeriko’s family. The fundraiser describes him as a playful and loving child who had recently taken his first steps and spoken his first words, “mama” and “papa.” He loved watching children’s shows like Bebe Fin, and his laughter could brighten any day.

As of Wednesday night, the fundraiser had raised over $4,500 out of its $9,000 goal. The family hopes to give Jeriko a proper farewell and appreciates any support, whether through donations or sharing the fundraiser with others.
