A fugitive wanted in Ballard County, Kentucky, was taken into custody following a traffic stop in the Farley area of McCracken County. The arrest occurred on Wednesday, January 29, at approximately 2:37 p.m. after detectives from the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle for multiple traffic infractions on Husbands Road near the intersection of Dixie Avenue.
Upon approaching the vehicle, detectives made contact with the driver, who was unable to provide a valid driver’s license. When asked for identification, the driver gave authorities a false Social Security number. Detectives, suspecting deception, attempted to detain the individual for further investigation. However, the suspect immediately resisted, pulling away and physically struggling with officers.
During the confrontation, the suspect continued to fight against being restrained, prompting detectives to deploy a Taser to subdue him. After a brief struggle, law enforcement successfully detained and identified the man as 35-year-old Caleb Hazelwood of Wickliffe, Kentucky. A routine warrant check revealed that Hazelwood had two outstanding warrants from Ballard County related to charges of burglary and criminal mischief.
Following his arrest, Hazelwood was examined at the scene by Mercy Ambulance Service before being transported and lodged at the McCracken County Regional Jail. In addition to the two existing warrants, he now faces multiple additional charges, including careless driving, failure to have a driver’s license in possession, operating on a suspended license, failure to produce an insurance card, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the arrest was part of their ongoing efforts to apprehend fugitives and ensure public safety.
