A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old outside a Food-4-Less store in Indio, California, on Saturday evening.
According to police, Gideon Gonzalez was taken into custody near the scene shortly after the shooting, which occurred around 5:40 p.m. Authorities believe the incident stemmed from an altercation between Gonzalez and the victim inside the store, located at the intersection of Highway 111 and Monroe Street.
What began as a verbal dispute quickly escalated into a physical fight outside the store. As tensions rose, Gonzalez allegedly pulled out a firearm. The victim attempted to flee but was shot while running away. He collapsed nearby and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Swift Arrest and Evidence Found
Witnesses reported seeing Gonzalez running southeast from the store following the shooting. Officers quickly located and arrested him nearby, while a firearm was recovered close to the scene. Both Gonzalez and the victim were residents of Indio.
Gonzalez is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name.
