78-Year-Old Man Brutally Attacked in Downtown Columbus—Suspect Arrested


In a shocking and heartbreaking incident, a 78-year-old man was viciously attacked while walking along North High Street in downtown Columbus. According to the latest reports, the unprovoked assault occurred on January 25, 2025, near the COTA building at 33 N. High St. at approximately 10:12 p.m.

Columbus police released disturbing video footage showing the elderly victim strolling down the street when, out of nowhere, he was sucker punched in the face by a man. The brutal hit resulted in severe injuries—a broken nose and a broken ankle—leaving the elderly victim in immense pain and distress.

After an extensive investigation, authorities have arrested 29-year-old Emmanuel Childs in connection with the violent attack. According to police documents, Childs was taken into custody without incident and later admitted to the shocking crime during questioning at police headquarters.

The community has been left outraged and deeply saddened by this tragic event, with many expressing their concerns about public safety in the downtown area. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as they work to ensure justice is served.
