Fort Smith Man Pleads Not Guilty to Shocking Sexual Assault Charges

[ad_1]

VAN BUREN – A 25-year-old Fort Smith man is facing serious charges after being accused of sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl. Brendon M. Alday entered a not guilty plea in Crawford County Circuit Court on Wednesday and is set to stand trial later this year.

According to court records, Alday has been charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault involving a child under 14 years old. The alleged assault took place on or about October 17, as stated in the official documents.

This case follows a previous rape charge against Alday that was dropped six years ago at the victim’s request, according to court filings. Despite the prior case being dismissed, he now faces new allegations that have led to his recent arrest.

Van Buren police took Alday into custody on January 28, and he was later appointed a public defender. During his court appearance on Wednesday, he waived formal arraignment and entered his plea.

Alday remains in the Crawford County jail on a $150,000 bond as he awaits further legal proceedings. His next court hearing is scheduled for August 27, with a jury trial set for October 20.

This disturbing case has shocked the local community, with many following the legal proceedings closely. Authorities continue to investigate, and further details may emerge as the trial approaches.
