A dramatic police chase in Decatur ended with the arrest of Harold Crawford, a man accused of stealing a vehicle and leading officers on a pursuit through the city.
According to the Decatur Police Department, officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle in southwest Decatur on Friday. They quickly located the car traveling north on Spring Avenue and initiated a pursuit.
The chase took a dangerous turn when the suspect abandoned the vehicle in a ditch on Canterbury Avenue and attempted to escape on foot. Officers, investigators, and detectives coordinated efforts to track him down. After a brief foot chase, Crawford was apprehended in the 1700 block of Douthit Street.
Following his arrest, Crawford was charged with first-degree receiving stolen property and booked into the Morgan County Jail on a $5,000 bond. Authorities say additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.
Police continue to gather evidence related to the vehicle theft and pursuit, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
