A tragic car crash in Miami Gardens resulted in the deaths of a woman and four children after a speeding SUV rear-ended their vehicle, police reported. The accident occurred on Northwest 37th Avenue near 170th Street on Saturday evening, prompting a swift response from Miami Gardens Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Surveillance footage captured the violent collision at approximately 6 p.m. A black SUV was seen crashing into the rear of a white Nissan Altima, forcing it into a silver Cadillac Escalade ahead. The impact severely crushed the Altima, which was carrying five occupants. Emergency responders transported all five victims to hospitals in Broward County as trauma alerts, but they later succumbed to their injuries.

Miami Gardens Police Executive Officer Emmanuel Jeanty confirmed the fatalities, stating, “Five fatalities. It’s going to be one adult female and four children.” Additionally, at least five other individuals sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals for medical treatment.

Investigators believe excessive speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. “Speed was a factor, and alcohol was also a factor,” Jeanty said. Authorities identified the driver of the black SUV as 25-year-old Antonio Wilcox Jr. He has been charged with five counts of vehicular homicide and could potentially face additional charges as the investigation progresses.

Law enforcement officers and forensic specialists remained at the scene well into the night, gathering evidence and working to piece together the full circumstances of the tragedy. The crash has deeply affected the Miami Gardens community, as well as the first responders involved in the rescue and investigation efforts.

“It’s a very tough night for our community. It’s a very tough night for our officers responding to the scene. It’s a very tough night for fire rescue personnel,” Jeanty added.

As of late Saturday night, the identities of the victims had not been released. Authorities continue their investigation to determine if further charges should be brought against Wilcox, pending the completion of forensic and toxicology reports.
