From Snow to a Sudden Warm-Up—Colorado’s Wild Weather Swings Continue in Pueblo

If you were hoping for an early taste of spring, think again—Pueblo’s winter weather is sticking around. Snow showers and bitterly cold temperatures will continue through the middle of the week, making travel hazardous before a brief warm-up on Valentine’s Day. However, don’t get too comfortable—the cold is coming right back by the weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Pueblo, warning residents of slick roads, icy conditions, and freezing temperatures through Wednesday morning.

How Bad Will It Get?

  • Today (Wednesday, Feb. 12): Expect more light snowfall, adding another 1 to 2 inches to what’s already on the ground. Roads will remain slick and hazardous, especially in the morning. Highs will struggle to reach 18°F (-8°C), and tonight’s low will be a brutal -6°F (-21°C).
  • Thursday, Feb. 13: While snow showers will taper off, it won’t feel much better. The cold remains, though increasing sunshine will help slightly. Highs will climb to 35°F (2°C) before dipping back to 16°F (-9°C) overnight.
  • Friday, Feb. 14 (Valentine’s Day): A brief warm-up arrives just in time for date night! Pueblo will see a high near 60°F (16°C), but don’t be fooled—it won’t last long. Expect breezy conditions, with lows dropping to 27°F (-3°C) overnight.
  • Saturday, Feb. 15: Another cold front moves in, bringing temperatures back down to 38°F (3°C) with lows near 17°F (-8°C).

Why This Weather Is a Big Deal

Pueblo is no stranger to winter, but the extreme temperature swings can make conditions unpredictable and dangerous. Snow and ice-covered roads will continue to make driving treacherous, especially in the mornings. Even when the snow stops falling, temperatures will remain well below freezing, meaning ice will linger on roads and sidewalks.

And while Friday’s warm-up might feel like a relief, it’s short-lived. Saturday will bring another steep temperature drop, reminding everyone that winter isn’t ready to let go just yet.

How to Stay Safe

  • If you must drive, be extra cautious – Icy patches and snow-covered roads will remain an issue, especially during the morning and evening hours. Give yourself extra time and drive slowly.
  • Bundle up in layers – With wind chills making it feel even colder, frostbite can happen in minutes if skin is exposed. Hats, gloves, and insulated coats are a must.
  • Stay updated on weather alerts – Conditions can change quickly. Check the latest forecasts before heading out.
  • Prepare for power outages – Heavy snow and gusty winds could knock out power in some areas, so keep blankets, flashlights, and emergency supplies on hand.

What’s Next? Another Winter Punch Could Be Coming

The current storm system will move out by late Thursday, but long-range forecasts suggest more winter weather could return next week. If you’re hoping for an early spring, don’t get your hopes up yet—Colorado’s wild weather isn’t done making an impact.
