The incident occurred just before 8:45 p.m. in the 200 block of N. Indiana Avenue when officers responded to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Gallegos suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hours after the shooting, police detained a 14-year-old boy, who is being handled in juvenile court. Authorities have not released his identity due to his age.
