In a shocking case unfolding in east Las Vegas, 24-year-old Julio Machado Vasquez faces a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon after police discovered his girlfriend dead from gunshot wounds in his car.
The incident began early Sunday morning when authorities received a call reporting that a man had shot his girlfriend. Police identified Vasquez as the suspect and attempted a traffic stop. However, he fled, leading to a multi-car crash near Charleston Boulevard and Pecos Road.
Emergency personnel found the woman deceased in the front seat of Vasquez’s Ford Mustang. Vasquez was taken to the hospital following the crash and missed his first court appearance on Monday due to his hospitalization.
Justice Court Hearing Master Amy Ferreira confirmed probable cause for his arrest on all charges, including disobeying a peace officer resulting in bodily harm. Vasquez is currently in custody at the Clark County Detention Center, held without bail for the murder charge and $20,000 for the additional charge.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, as the investigation into the tragedy continues.
