BAXTER COUNTY, Ark. — Arkansas State Police are investigating the shooting death of a man in Baxter County on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

According to officials, officers from the Gassville Police Department responded to a call about a shooting on Mountain Loop Road on Monday. When they arrived, they found 32-year-old Ian Lapio, who had been shot.

Witnesses told detectives that Lapio and another man had argued before the shooting occurred. After the shooting, Lapio was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he later died from his injuries.

The police took a person into custody for questioning. However, the investigation is still ongoing. The body of Lapio was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for further examination to determine the cause and manner of his death.

The case is being handled by special agents, and once the investigation is complete, the findings will be presented to the 14th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney. The prosecutor will decide whether or not criminal charges should be filed in connection to the shooting.

At this time, the details surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and law enforcement is working to uncover all the facts.
