An 81-year-old man, Charles Witter, from Lombard, Illinois, has been charged with killing his wife, 80-year-old Helen Witter, after an argument. The tragic incident happened early one morning, when the couple was in bed. According to police, the two were arguing when Charles took a gun from his nightstand and shot his wife in the head. Helen was found lying in bed with blood on her pillow, and emergency responders rushed her to the hospital, but she was later pronounced dead. Charles called 911 after the shooting, telling the operator he had shot his wife. When police arrived, they arrested him right away. He is now facing a first-degree murder charge.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin expressed his condolences to the Witter family, calling the situation heartbreaking.
In a separate incident, in Louisiana, Gregory Gaither, a 45-year-old man, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his 75-year-old aunt, Joyce Williams, to death. Police arrived at Joyce’s home in Terrebonne Parish on Monday morning after reports of an argument between the two. Joyce was found with multiple stab wounds to her upper body. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, she was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police say the altercation took place inside the home between Gaither and his aunt, and during the argument, Gaither stabbed her several times. He remained at the scene until police arrived and was arrested without resistance. Gaither has been charged with second-degree murder.
These two cases highlight tragic events involving family members, where arguments escalated to deadly violence. Both incidents have left families and communities in shock and mourning.
