Tragic Las Vegas Crash: Juvenile Driver Faces DUI Charges After Killing Bicyclist

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – A juvenile driver is facing multiple charges, including DUI resulting in death, after a high-speed crash claimed the life of a Las Vegas bicyclist. The fatal collision occurred on Jan. 15 around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Lamb Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.

According to Nevada State Police, the suspect was driving a Chrysler 300 when he fled from a traffic stop conducted by Las Vegas Metro Police. While speeding north on Lamb Boulevard, he sideswiped a Mitsubishi Outlander before colliding with a Chevrolet Tahoe. The force of the impact sent both vehicles onto a sidewalk, where they struck a bicyclist, identified as 41-year-old Luis Sanchez Ochoa.

Ochoa and the Chrysler then crashed into a brick wall before coming to a stop. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mitsubishi sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, while the juvenile driver and the Chevrolet’s driver were treated on-site for minor injuries.

Following an investigation by the Nevada State Police Traffic Homicide Unit, the juvenile driver was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center. He faces several serious charges, including DUI resulting in death, reckless driving, and fleeing from law enforcement.

This tragic incident underscores the dangers of impaired and reckless driving, leaving a grieving family behind and raising concerns about road safety in the Las Vegas community.
