CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. – A James Island High School student has been arrested on multiple outstanding warrants, with additional charges now filed after authorities discovered a handgun and drugs in the student’s vehicle.

According to Sgt. Chris Stinson of the Charleston Police Department, officers apprehended the student following an investigation in coordination with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. Upon searching the student’s vehicle, police found a firearm and marijuana, leading to further legal trouble for the suspect.

As a result, the student now faces serious charges, including possession with intent to distribute, possession of a handgun by a minor, and unlawful carrying of a weapon on school property. Due to the suspect being under 18, authorities have not released their name.

The arrest has sparked concerns over student safety and security within the school community. Law enforcement officials emphasize that strict measures are in place to ensure schools remain safe, urging parents and students to report any suspicious activities.

This remains a developing story, and updates will follow as more details emerge.
