Woman Sentenced for Scalding Children in Hot Bath

GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio – In a shocking case of child endangerment, a Crown City woman has been sentenced to prison for causing serious harm to two young children by forcing them to endure scalding hot water.

Malynda R. Harrison, 22, was sentenced to eight to 11 years behind bars after being convicted on two counts of child endangerment. According to the Gallia County Prosecutor’s Office, the distressing incident took place in June 2024 at a home on Hannan Trace Road in Crown City.

Investigators revealed that Harrison placed two children, ages 5 and 4, into a bathtub filled with excessively hot water and refused to adjust the temperature or allow them to escape, causing them immense suffering. Authorities say the burns inflicted were severe, prompting an immediate investigation that led to her arrest.

During the court proceedings, prosecutors emphasized the cruelty of the act, arguing that Harrison deliberately ignored the children’s cries for help. Medical experts who testified in the case confirmed that the burns sustained by the children were consistent with prolonged exposure to scalding water.

Following her conviction, the court imposed a strict prison sentence, citing the extreme physical and emotional trauma inflicted on the victims. Harrison will also remain under the supervision of the Ohio Adult Parole Authority for up to three years upon her release.

This case has sent shockwaves through the community, with child welfare advocates expressing outrage over the horrific treatment of the victims. Authorities are urging the public to report any suspicions of child abuse, emphasizing that early intervention can save lives.

As the victims continue their recovery, the sentencing of Malynda Harrison serves as a stern warning against child abuse and neglect. The tragic case highlights the importance of vigilance in protecting society’s most vulnerable members.
